It’s that time of year for me: Ash Wednesday. This year I am giving up fried food and online shopping. My focus this year is to avoid distractions in whatever form. It could be television, social media, and he’s, even friends. I really want to spend the next 40 days focusing on improving myself and simplifying my life. However, this goes beyond 40 days and it doesn’t matter what you believe to work on yourself! #ashwednesday #catholic #lent
If you want to know what Catholic guilt means, it is basically this:
You think about ordering food for delivery but it is raining outside, so you feel bad for for making the delivery person work in the rain.
But then you think about how you’re not contributing money to the business and helping them make money, which could result in the person losing their job because there isn’t enough business.
So you go ahead and order food…then remember about making the delivery person go work in the rain.
Clearly the solution is to order takeout and pick it up in the rain.
Tonight my friend and I had a conversation about travel and she asked me what trip changed my life. I told her it was when I freed myself from expectation and booked a one-way flight to Croatia. It was amongst the mountains in a small city in Bosnia where I found clarity in my life: Medjugorje. I don’t think I ever felt at peace as much as I did that moment up in the mountains. #Medjugorje #travel #catholic
