A Bad Friend
I am a bad friend,
and you’ll never know why.
I am the friend you tell others about,
but they don’t believe I exist.
Because I don’t show up,
but am often present.
I don’t say what you want to hear,
but upset you with honesty and criticism.
I never say how much our friendship matters,
but feel like you should know without words.
I won’t go on trips and vacations with you,
but will surprise you with a flight to go somewhere.
I might not respond to your emails, social media, and texts,
but will pick up the phone and call when you need someone to talk to.
I will miss your wedding celebration in the lights of the public,
but I will put flowers on your grave in the shadows.
To show you how much you meant to me.
