I was sitting at the BK having lunch. There was this Latino man (probably in his late 30s) sweeping the floor. These group of people my age walked out and one of the guys points at the man working and yells “Hey, don’t work too hard!” and starts laughing.
I don’t want to assume the guy’s upbringing but he is a person of color. I wonder if he had a relative growing up who had to bust their ass in food services to raise him. Who knows. Every time I see someone working at a restaurant or convenience store, I can’t help but think of some of my aunts and uncles who had to do the same thing when they first immigrated here.
Again, I don’t want to assume I know that person’s upbringing, but why put other people down who are just trying to make an honest living? Not cool.
